Georgina Chapman Faces Foreclosure on West Village Apartment

Georgina Chapman, the Marchesa founder and ex-wife of Harvey Weinstein, seems to be having money problems. As The Real Deal reported, Chapman is facing a foreclosure lawsuit on her West Village two-bedroom at 99 Jane Street. Chapman bought the apartment in 2009 for $1.7 million in an all-cash deal but has re-mortgaged it twice in the years since with her brother, Edward Chapman, who is also the CEO of Marchesa. According to the foreclosure complaint, the pair allegedly defaulted on the mortgage last November and now owe the original $2.5 million loan plus interest and late fees.

The condo board also sued Chapman and her brother for more than $7,000 in unpaid common charges. But it’s not just the apartment — Chapman is being sued by GFP Real Estate for $1.4 million in back rent for Marchesa’s lease at 80 Eighth Avenue. The company seems to have been floundering for a while now — Puck reported back in March that Marchesa was mired in complaints from customers who hadn’t gotten refunds for returned items. (“I have emailed them and called more than a dozen times with NO RESPONSE!” one such customer wrote on the company’s Better Business Bureau profile.)

Chapman and Weinstein finalized their divorce in 2021 after Weinstein was convicted of third-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual assault and sentenced to 23 years in prison. (Chapman has been dating Adrien Brody since 2020.) Chapman was reported to have received an estimated $15 to $20 million in a confidential divorce settlement, but it’s unclear where all that money is right now.
